How much to tip hair stylist or manicurist?
Technically, are they even ';supposed'; to be tipped? I always leave a tip, but I feel very uncomfortable wondering if they think I'm being cheap.
If I get a $25 pedicure, I'll usually tip $5.
Last night, I tried to dye my hair on my own with Garnier hair dye. It was HORRIBLE. So I had to go to a salon today to have it fixed. The nice salon I usually go to wasn't open, so my only alternative was Regis. The coloring was $115. I wiped out most of what was left in my bank account (after bills). I *couldn't* leave a big tip, so I left $10. Was that too little? How much to tip hair stylist or manicurist?
no it was fine. dont worry about itHow much to tip hair stylist or manicurist?
nope ten dollars is perfect
yea thats kinda beat especially since she fixed it me and my friends try to leave between 15-20$ and don't forget to tip the girl who washes your hair a dollar or 2 but I mean if you were broke then don't feel bad next time you get your hair cut by her give her a bigger tip. It happens
no not all, because they should be lucky your tipping.
most of the hair sylist depends on tips.

I need a professional hair stylist's opinion - What would be better for me - Highlights or just a touch up?
I usually have light blond hair (think carrie underwood)- BUT - I just had a baby so I ';let myself go'; a little. Now my Dark brown roots are about an inch long and my hair looks a little yellowish (BLAH).
I just moved so the salon where I used to get a touch up and occasional ';few 'highlights is so far.
So my question is would I be better off getting a full head of blond highlights -Or - should I get my usual touch-up. (I cant afford highlights and touch up this time around) -but -Will just highlights cover my dark roots enough?)
Please help :)I need a professional hair stylist's opinion - What would be better for me - Highlights or just a touch up?
Go for the touch up. Since you have dark brown roots getting highlights will make it look worse.

Are there any professional hair stylist out there that know what they're doing?
Okay, since I wasn't really clear on my last hair question I'm gonna try this again.
I DO NOT want to go all natural, but I want to grow my hair super long, and use less heat during the process of growing it. And I know my hair is damaged so I am thinking about chopping about an inch off, so would this make my hair grow? If so how would I style my new short mid- neck length hair without heat?...any suggestions.Having curly or wavy hair would be fine too..so how would I achieve styles like that without curling irons and stuff?
Overall, after I cut it, what are good treatments or hair tips to help me grow it longer and faster? Are there any professional hair stylist out there that know what they're doing?
I don't think I answered your last question......cutting your hair doesn't make hair from your scalp grow faster....what it does is keep hair healthy so it doesn't break off. There are so many cuts for your length hair that you can do with just a dryer. It should be long layered with some long layered swept over bangs. I can picture it in my head but I don't have time right now to look anything up. It could be longer in front and somewhat wispy. If it's short enough you could maybe even just use a little light product and put it in place with your fingers. Even if you're growing it, that type of style would work, but maybe not longer in front.
If you have a professional do it I'm sure she/he would be the one to help you since they could see how your hair worksAre there any professional hair stylist out there that know what they're doing?
First of all, go to the stylist and tell her you want all split ends and hair with breakage cut off. You don't want any of the damage left on your hair otherwise it will continue to break up the shaft and ruin your hair. Then, buy some Garnier Fructis hair mask (or any reliable hair product line with a hair mask) and put it on your hair DRY, then put a shower cap on over it while taking your shower and rinse it out at the very end. This treats damaged hair, and the steam from a shower intensifies the healing process. Then, to style your hair, use mouse on curly hair-Redken mouse is fantastic! For straight hair, unfortunately, if your hair is naturally curly, you have to use heat to straighten it. Just because your hair is damaged, doesn't mean you can't use heat-you just have to protect your hair. Buy V05's heat protection spray and spray it ALL OVER while hair is damp, then use shine serums and protection spray afterwards. Also, never comb hair while there is any kind of hairspray or excessive products (glue, wax, gel) because this damages your hair. Any other questions, message me (:

Need help from a HAIR STYLIST please?
A few weeks ago, I saw a make over program where the hair stylist dyed a ladies hair from blonde to brunette...
Before he put the dye on her hair, he said that he sprayed her hair with something first in order to stop her hair from going a dingy greenish colour...
In the past I've tried to get my hair from blonde (dye job) to brunette, but have always had my hair turn icky a few days later.
Whatever this spray was....I need it! =)
Does anyone know what type of spray this was, and what its called?
Any help would be HIGHLY appreciated.
Thank-you.Need help from a HAIR STYLIST please?
I havn't seen it in a spray form, but when coloring your hair from blonde to brunette you need to ';fill'; it. Brown hair is composed of 3 colors - Yellow, Red and Blue. Blonde hair is missing the red and blue. Filling the hair is adding in the missing colors. What does yellow and blue make? Green! So, if you tried to color your hair from blonde to brown without first filling it with a red shade you would get green hair.Need help from a HAIR STYLIST please?
a spray? In my years of hair dying and cosmetology class I haven't heard of a spray to protect. Check Sallybeauty.com
Oh man, I work at a hair salon and have never heard of this before. I actually just recently went from blonde to brunette and didn't spray anything in my hair before doing so. You need to get it professionally done and that will insure that your hair won't turn a yucky color. Or have you been getting it done at a salon and it turns nasty? If that's the case, find a different salon. I really always advise against do it yourself color if you're going for a drastic change. It's okay if you're going a shade or two from your original but if you're going from blonde to brunette or vice versa, you're going to want to visit a salon.
hair serum, im sure it will do the trick.
what did your hair do a few days later? If you go from blonde to brunette that shouldnt be that hard to do unless your hair is over processed already. Whenever you dye your hair dark, dont use it a 2nd and 3rd time use something in the browns but not as dark or you may end up with a nasty black color.almay

Should I sue the hair stylist?
So I went into a salon to get my hair highlighted for my birthday and I have REALLY thick hair well she thinned it out so much that it looks like I have a mullet I have no hair on the bottom and the top is still extremely thick. And the hair color is orange and there is way to much I wanted sutle highlights and these are chunky and not the right color. I went back and she gave me horrible extensions and I went into 2 salons and had them look at the extensions because I could barely move my head and they said she did them all wrong. I have pictures of before and after. It is going to cost $600 to put in extensions to replace the hair she cut out and fix the damage she did with the hot glue gun that was stuck all over my head. Anyways she isnt willing to pay for someone to do them correctly if you look at the pictures I want to know if you would side with me or her. Oh not to mention she put platinum blond extensions in my brown and orange hair so they stuck out like a sore thumb! heres the link to the pics...

I would want to sue too!!! I'm so sorry, she completely took advantage of you I hope you didn't pay he, but I would definitely look into getting her license revoked or something- in the least she'll never do this to another person...Should I sue the hair stylist?
oh man thats not fun! as a hairstylist, it make me sick to think there are people out there like that doing hair. she obviously doesnt have good listening skills and was not trained properly. in that situation im not sure you can sue, but i would fight for your money back! and also get the word around about her, because she shouldnt be allowed t do hair. i would stick it out for a while till your hair feels somewhat healthy and go to a new more professional stylist and see what they can do :) there will be some good outcome to this, dont worry.
i'm assuming you cant sue them.
1. its hair, sweetie, it'll grow back.
2. its not her fault, maybe she misheard you, besides, we've all had a bad haircut/color just chop all of it off and start fresh! short hair is cute!
3. Learn to forgive and forget, and btw, i don't have a facebook, so i can't view them...
NEVERMIND, SUE SUE SUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
omg, wtf did she do? i don't know if you can sue, but you should get your money back.

Help!I think the hair stylist burnt my scalp!?
Hello!
Ok so on Saturday I went for my monthly hair 'deep conditioning'.
My regular person was not there so the Salon owner asked me to try out the services of a new person.
The new girl put the steam on too high I think...after one minute I told her to lower the heat intensity. Anyway, after I got the whole treatment done and came home.
This morning when I woke up there is a small patch of skin on the left side of my scalp that feels kinnda burnt. I called the Salon owner and told her, she apologized.
Anyway, what should I do about it now? Because it feels uncomfortable. Is there any scalp soothing oil or treatment anyone can recommend to make the itchy/burnt feeling go away?Help!I think the hair stylist burnt my scalp!?
If it is bad then go in and ask them to do something for it. That way they will be able to assess what damage has been done also. If they refuse, go somewhere else and get them to have a look. If it is truly a bad burn maybe get your doc to take a look if its serious.Help!I think the hair stylist burnt my scalp!?
Unfortunately I don't think so. Just relax and maybe apply so cold to it. It will heal soon.

I have been a hair stylist for 7 years. I apprenticed for 2 in another state. Should I apprentice again?
I have been a hair stylist for a little over 7 years. I apprenticed for two years in California, but have been living in Portland, OR for the last 4. When I came here, I just began working at a laid back salon with a walk in clientele. I didn't want to assist anywhere, because I felt that I had already been through that. I have recently started working at a commission based salon and as usual a lot of my clients have not followed. I love where I am working, but am not really making much money here. It is a new shop and the location is quite far from my old shop. It is definitely picking up, but it is in the mid price range. This is okay, but I was trained to work at a high end place and think that my skills are good enough. However, to do this, I would most likely have to apprentice at a salon again. Most of my current clients just couldn't afford to go where I would like to be. Should I start from scratch and apprentice again? Is this the only way to jump to high end?I have been a hair stylist for 7 years. I apprenticed for 2 in another state. Should I apprentice again?
This is a common problem that hairstylists face. Leave your clients, or not have enough money. While it would be sad to leave your clients that you have built a relationship with and have to start all over again, I think that you have to leave the clients out of it and think about what is best for you. Could you make more money somewhere else? Probably. Would you like where you worked as much as the place you're at now? Maybe not. Which is more important to you?
I don't think that every high end salon starts everyone new as an apprentice. I know that a good majority of them do it this way, but you should consider looking around, because some of them will put you right onto the floor, but at reduced rates. You will still have to build up your book from scratch, but eventually you'll be able to raise your prices, and the ones that have been coming to you since the beginning will most likely stay with you. (since they're coming to a high end place anyway) Try craigslist. ( http://portland.craigslist.org/ ) They have a salon/spa section under the job listings, and you can make some good contacts there. I wish you all the best in whatever you decide!
Oh, yahoo answers isn't the best place to connect with other stylists. Check out, http://www.behindthechair.com/ It's a really great website for professionals, and the bulletin boards there are awesome.
Good Luck!I have been a hair stylist for 7 years. I apprenticed for 2 in another state. Should I apprentice again?
Apprenticing again would give you more experience and help you learn new and different techniques, in turn making you more valuable.
The organization and I agree that it would be in your best interest. Keep it fierce, keep it fabulous.

Ladies/girls; ever have a stylist screw up your hair so bad it brought you to tears?
It's probably happened to most of you at some point; the bad haircut/perm/color etc..
But was there one incident that started you bawling?
Let's hear what you have to say.Ladies/girls; ever have a stylist screw up your hair so bad it brought you to tears?
I was trying to go from a light blond to a more natural brown, and I had a stylist turn my roots orange and the rest of my hair looked gray AND she burned my scalp with the bleach. Before she started coloring process SHE started crying because a friend of hers had a brain tumor. I asked her if she wanted to reschedule and she said that she would be fine. She didn't seem to notice/care that she ruined my hair. I felt badly for her and her friend, but she was completely unprofessional. She did not offer to fix my hair. She should have stayed home that day. I spent $500 going elsewhere to fix what she had done. I had a few tears over that one.Ladies/girls; ever have a stylist screw up your hair so bad it brought you to tears?
Yeah, thats happened to me. My stylist was cutting my hair and she cut like 5 inches off one side and only 2 on the other. Then she put it in a ponytail so i wouldn't notice, i guess.
well, once i asked a stylist for a girly/modern haircut (i told him to do whatever he thought would look nice on me) AND HE MADE ME LOOK LIKE A GUY!!! I was lucky and didn't start crying untill I got home.... worst haircut of my life.
I told her I wanted a trim, half an inch and she took off 8 INCHES!!!!!!!!!
YES!
i have super duper curly hair, but i wear it straight, still, my hair needs to be cut in a certain way.
this woman chopped it up. she seriously took chunks and cut.
she was a psycho.
she was done by the time i could go ';what the *****!!!!!?!';
i looked like a frizz ball for a month after, i invested in beanies.
i remember one time around halloween a hairdresser highlighted my hair so bad i looked like a tabby cat color it was dreadful but it was halloween so i lived thru it and never went back to her
I got my hair cut into layers a few weeks ago and was so MAD at the way it looked. I didn't cry, but I was rather rude to the stylist when it was done.
i told her to take off an inch. and she took off at least 4 inches. and i wasn't ready to have short hair again, bc i was determined to grow it out. i started crying on my way out.
my hair was up to my lower back and i said i wanted 1 inch cut off and they cut it just a little below my shoulders! i cried for like 2 weeks!
OMG YES! I said to this one hairdresser i wanted wispy bangs, that was probably 4 years ago, and she gave me full huge ones like nelly furtado! I immediatly started crying and bawling like a baby, i felt so stupid!
OMG!
it was last yr when i asked to get it layerd, thinned %26amp; trimmed.
the lady cut my hair like 2inches,then layered it,WOW!
my hair looked awfill,i started crying, after i left the store.
THANKfully my hair grows fast!
Yes, I told her I wanted it shoulder lenght, and she cut it up till my ears, andd she cut my bangs crooked. I started crying =]
Usually, no. No matter how bad the cut is, there's always a way to cope until it grows out.
The one time I went home and cried was when I asked for thin, blonde highlights and she screwed up the foils and I was bleached all over. Then she didn't leave them in long enough so it came out a brassy orangey yellow with a good 1/2 inch uncolored at my roots. I had dark strips at my part and hairline. It was horrific!
Fortunately I went back to her boss the next day and she did an allover toner rinse to hide the blonde- but the bleach really fried my hair. Couldn't do any other highlights or color for a year because it was so dry...I nearly cried every time I got it trimmed because I wanted to be able to fix the color so badly but it was just dry and icky feeling.
YESSSS!!!! i went to get a haircut at some salon, and the guy he persuaded me to get blond highlights into my brown hair so i sed ok, when he finished my face was sooo red cuz i was sooo mad, the color was awful and disgusting!! i started to cry, but i told him i loved it. The worst part is, it was permamnent dye and it cost $200!!!!!! I AM NEVER EVER EVER EVER GOING THERE AGAIN!! (nor will i ever ever get highlights ever again)
P.s. I didn' go to school for like a week until my mom finally took my to another salon so they can strip the color out of my hair. I was crying for a week.
i went to the salon and i wanted light blonde hair, and she colored the whole thing yellow. i looked like vitamin c (the singer) only with yellow hair. and she also got bleach on this abercrombie shirt i was wearing and ruined it. i had to go back the next day, to get it fixed
I went to a different stylist then my usual one because my friend told me that the stylist gives you cuts that look best on you. Little did I know that my friend was playing a trick on me. I went to the stylist as told and I asked for a trim with just a little bit of layers because my hair is frizzy. She cut up my hair so much that I practically looked like I was a guy and the layers were awful, they flew up everywhere. I cried so much when I found out that my friend knew about this stylist and lied in saying that the stylist was good hair cutter. Yeah right...
yes!
I asked for chocolate brown colour with like red highlights in it and she gave me black and red! I looked like a goth and was only 14!
Nope and I hope it never happens. This is why I stick to one hairdresser who knows my hair and my face structure so my hairstyles always suit me.
No but wen i was in 3rd grade i had hair don a little below my shoulders. i wanted my hair 1.5 inches but she cut it up to my neck and i looked like a gut. i am so glad that it was wen i was young or i would start to cry.
yea its happened to me once. i wanted a short trim, but the hair stylist screwed it up so bad, i had choppy ends and she cut bangs in the front (which i did not want, but they weren't that short) thank god i was young then.
YES!
i have super duper curly hair, but i wear it straight, still, my hair needs to be cut in a certain way.
this woman chopped it up. she seriously took chunks and cut.
she was a psycho.
she was done by the time i could go ';what the *****!!!!!?!';
i looked like a frizz ball for a month after, i invested in beanies.
i remember one time around halloween a hairdresser highlighted my hair so bad i looked like a tabby cat color it was dreadful but it was halloween so i lived thru it and never went back to her
I got my hair cut into layers a few weeks ago and was so MAD at the way it looked.
OhGod, it happened just TODAY! I tried out this new place and I heard they were pretty good. First of all, they washed my hair really roughly, and then they had me stand there with wet hair and just a small towel on top. They didn't even let me sit! Then when I finally did get a seat, I told the lady what I wanted about 10 times, to make sure she knew what to do. She ended up cutting my bangs way too short! I told her that she did it wrong, with tears in my eyes. She didn't even say anything, she didn't care! I was so pissed off, I just payed and walked out of the salon crying. I'm never going back there again!Ladies/girls; ever have a stylist screw up your hair so bad it brought you to tears?
Yeah . . . urgh it was terrible, I nearlly got the ***** sacked for messing up my hair, if that wern't bad enough, I went to a different hairdresser and a trainee dryed my hair, nothing wrong with that except . . . The hairdryer blew out on my hair - causing it to smell of burnt out electricity for the week :@, also before it concked out she ragged my hair about like it was a rag doll - Luckily she never finished her course in hairdressing - She had too many complaints about her and her dodgy hair drying, Thank heavens !!!
Oh and I did cry in the salon !!!! But who can blame me lol
Yes, that has happened to me. It is dissapointing because it takes a while to grow hair back. LOL.
Oh boy. I remember being only 17 and having my hair permed for the first time. The lady burnt my hair. Cut it way too short. By the time I was out of there I had short hair with layers of stubbles. I cried all the way home. The second time I went to have my hair permed (from someone different) I left there and went to the store and bought hair straightener. I have never had my hair permed again. :(
when I go my hair cut SHORT....about a week later I wanted to cry realizing my mistake....it was so ughhhh...it took me like 2 years to grow it back out
yes!!!!i was just getting ready for school to start again(i was like 6 or 5)and my mom brought me to this salon were this forgein lady was cutting hair(bad mistake for us!)my mom told her to give me bangs straight across my forehead just above my eyebrows.well,i guess she went too short because when i walked out,i had half inch bangs!!!!!!!!!i was furious and i threw the biggest tantrum it eventually grew back and now that im older i decided to get sideswept bangs this time.i will never get anyone but my best friend to cut my hair ever again!!!
I purchased dark brown hair extensions online and my hair was 2-4 shades lighter than the hair extensions I planned to put in. I went to a stylist so she could dye my hair the exact color - I even took the hair extensions with me so she could match the color up. Well after my hair was styled it was NOT the same color as the extensions and had a purple tinge!! I refused to pay the $80.00 because she'd ruin my hair. I didn't pay it and left, I've heard horror stories about her salon - she's an idiot.
Also, I've had really bad fringe cuts and hairdressers who make you feel uncomfortable and don't communicate to you end up giving you the worst hair because they're so self-absorbed and won't listen to what YOU want.
No wonder I'm training to become a hairdresser and beauty therapist, if I can save someone from hair disasters like I've had I'll be a happy woman.

Tipping a hair stylist?
The salon I go to owned by one person who rents the building. All the stylists own their own booths and charge whatever they please. All the stylists have different rates and work whatever hours they want.
Since my stylist is the only woman I pay, do I still have to tip her?...or is that already included since she tells me how much after each visit depending on what she has done for me, style, cut, color, etc.
Does anyone know if I need to tip her? I didn't think I needed to because she is the only one the money goes to. It's like the tip is already included...Tipping a hair stylist?
a tip is just to let her know that you really love what she did, so if you love it, then yes tip her, even if its only 5 bucks.Tipping a hair stylist?
She may figure out a built in tip but she not ';the only one that the money goes to.'; She is paying rent, utilities, and any advertisement to the owner.
Old school rules:
10% to barbers, hair stylists, %26amp; bartenders.
Ex-girlfriend / hair stylist's rules:
20% even though she was also the owner.
yes, you should tip your hair stylist. There is a chance that they don't make much money off of the hair cut, if they have to pay rent for the building or anything extra, so tipping them should give them a little extra. Plus, it lets them know that you like the job they did, gives them confidence :)
Yeah, You should tip her(unless, She's the owner, Then you don't tip the owner.). The money doesn't just go into her pocket. She has to get products for her clients hair, She has to pay the booth rental, etc.
since she charges you what ever she wants im Pretty sure she charges you with the tip included....
you don't need to tip her unless you think shes charging you let the the style was worth....
I tip 10% of the total cost of the service and only when it is good, which is just about every time I see my stylist.
u shud probably give a small 2 or 3 dollar tip.

Did my hair stylist cross the line?
Today when getting my hair done together with a friend, we were joking around but my hair stylist took it a bit far I think, she sprayed some styling gel on me as a joke. It got on my diamond ring and in my coffee cup which I'm sure wasn't intended but all the same, it was kinda taking it a big far don't you think? We were all joking in conversation about this particular product and I said I didn't like it, she did and then she did that to me. I was angry/upset but let it go. Still I wonder if I was wrong to say I was upset or if I should have just laughed it off. Thing is; I don't want that kind of thing to happen again.... your thoughts?Did my hair stylist cross the line?
Regardless of what I think - you have two options here
1) Get over it
2) Get a new hairdresser
Coz telling her, means she'll be annoyed at you - and I doubt you'll have a good haircut after thatDid my hair stylist cross the line?
I wouldn't be too upset about it.

Well, one thing you can help your friend is to introduce your friends to her as a hair stylist because she could make good money cutting hair in your place. This way, while she's still looking for a working place she could earn extra cash on the side or she could go to people's house and cut their hair.Hair salons in Dallas texas?? looking for job that pays good being a hair stylist?

Ladies/girls; ever have a stylist screw up your hair so bad it brought you to tears?
It's probably happened to most of you at some point; the bad haircut/perm/color etc..
But was there one incident that started you bawling?
Let's hear what you have to say.Ladies/girls; ever have a stylist screw up your hair so bad it brought you to tears?
Yes, tears for months! I was a long-standing client at an upscale Aveda salon and spent tons of money there since I got everything done there (waxing, cut, color, facials, nails and all the Aveda products). After much deliberation I decided to have my long, shiny, naturally curly hair straightened and while he was rinsing the chemical out, my hair began to fall out in clumps, clogging the drain. Then they had to cut my long hair to chin length and couldn't blow it dry as it just continued to fall out. I left the salon looking awful, my hair was completely fried. I cried all night and awoke to a pillow full of hair. I ended up having to have someone else from the salon come to my house and try to salvage my hair but, it was melted at the scalp and I ended up giving the o.k. to shave my head! I didn't get an apology from the guy who did it or the owner of the salon until a week later! I had to see a dermatologist for the scalp burns and wear a wig for 10 long months. It was a complete nightmare to say the least. Thankfully, the damage was not permanent and my hair has grown back.Ladies/girls; ever have a stylist screw up your hair so bad it brought you to tears?
Yes, I did pursue legal action after I found out they were telling clients that I was to blame for the incident! They falsely stated that I did not tell them that I was on fertility drugs ( I had not been for 2 years) at the time and that some freak chemical reaction took place. COWARDS!
31 years ago when I was in college in Bozeman, Mt, my boyfriend had just broke up with me. Thinking I needed to start over, I decided to get a new style at the downtown beauty college. I asked the rookie for a ';Dorothy Hamill'; haircut (very popular at the time), maybe she didn't know what I was talking about but when I left my hair was only about one inch long all over. I cried all the way back to campus, I was sooo humiliated. It's funny now but it sure wasn't at the time.
Actually.. here...
I never actually thought it was bad at the time.. I look back and realize that it looked really bad, but that was the style then.
So to answer your qustion, no not yet. (knock on wood.)
:-)
yup i cried when this lady cut my hair way to short i was so upset cuz i love my hair so much ( =
My perm was burning really bad that it bought me to tears. I just took my hair down and I got a perm but if u have my type of hair if it burns that good because it burn the danjers and the roots to make it straight
YES! My hair was long and I asked if she would feather it at the sides of my face and taper to it's (then) present length in the back. She chopped my hair in a blunt cut that barely touched my shoulders! That was decades ago in a Penney's saloon and I bought a scarf to put over my head before going home! I cried all the way home where my father, who used to be a barber, recut it and it turned out cute. But, I missed my long hair and wasted my money!
never had been too bad, but he always screws it up (too short) and it takes forever to grow back. i hated it
My sister did. He was a home stylist. She had hair which was down to her armpits and he started cutting one side at shoulder length and then got shorter and shorter as he went round (not meaning to) so the other side was up to her ear. She had to have it all cut to her ears. I think she cried for about 5 hours if I remember rightly....

Should I Be A Hair Stylist?
Ok, so I am half way finished with college...I was studying to be a teacher but I got a job as a substitute teacher and I realize that I hate being a teacher lol. Anyways, so for a long time I thought about being a hair stylist, but I figured having a college degree was important. Since I don't want to teach anymore I'm considering not finishing college and going to beauty school. Is this ridiculous? I know stylists don't make a ton, but neither do teachers. I'd appreciate any advice, I am totally stuck. ThanksShould I Be A Hair Stylist?
I am over half way done with beauty school and I love it! It's what I've always wanted to do.. but let me tell you.. if you aren't serious about it you will never make it through school.. you really have to WANT it... beauty school isn't college.. its more like a full time job.. seriously 4 days a week 8 hrs a day..no spring breaks and summer breaks and random breaks lol! and it takes about a yr and a half to finish... it's hard work much harder than people think... You have already made it so far through college.. and thats money wasted which I don't know about you but I don't have money to waste.. so my suggestion would be to switch your major to something else.. surely you could find something.. I'm going to go to college after I finish beauty school for business management i think.. if you are serious about beauty school finish college then go to beauty school you don't want to waste all of that money.. if you are good at math accounting would be a good half and half job with hair... just a suggestion but theres plenty more (I'm sure you know better than me how college works) so just figure something out.. but seriously if you aren't serious and you dont LOVE it then dont even consider it because you will never make it through.. and i'm not kidding! Good luck honeyShould I Be A Hair Stylist?
How much of your distribution do you have done? If you have a large amount of distribution (general credits) finished, then I would just choose a different major and get a BA. It would take just as much time to become a hair stylist and what if you go to beauty school and decide you don't like that either? It would be better to have a BA to fall back on then go to beauty school afterward.
Finish colllege, then go to beauty school. Cosmetologist can make great money, it depends on where you work. You could work at a full service salon that charges $35-$40 haircuts, you could get 50% commission, not including tips. That's decent money. Just finish your schooling, get that degree, and move on to beauty school. You'll have both under your belt to choose from. Beauty school is only about a year anyway, then you get your license, that's no time at all. :) Good luck!
Stick with college. Keep searching for what you would love to do. Being a stylist sometimes means being self-employed without insurance and retirement and can be really painful on your back, shoulders and arms. So, I would stick to college. You've done a great job because you're half way through. Keep up the good work!
I work part-time at a supermarket and there is a lady there who is a stylist as well, so that might mean that you will have to work more than one job. The same goes for teaching because a lot of my teachers work two jobs.

How To Become A Hair Stylist?
I'm still in high school, but I want information on everything I can do to start preparing/training/whatever for that career.
And don't leave a lame answer like ';practice on friends'; lol
I wan some serious answers pleassse :DHow To Become A Hair Stylist?
You can get a Manniquin at Sally's for somewhere around $45, and practice on the head..and pay attention to Chemistry, and anatomy, If you do any of that...That'll be a few classes on that, But Their really isn't much you can do to prepare, intill you get into Cosmetology School, which you have to have your GED or HS. Diploma before entering, because you learn everything(including anatomy and chemistry(Not like HS Classes, though.), before you go out on the floor for so many weeks.

Is it bad to ask your hair stylist to recolor your hair?
I just paid $120 for highlights yesterday and now that I've been home with it for a day, I really can't tell. I also got lowlights and if anything it actually looks darker. I'm a dark blond who really likes to lighten things up in the summer, but now I look the same or darker. They always say, ';let me know if you're unhappy with anything.'; But do they actually get annoyed if you aren't happy and want a do over? And, will I have to pay extra? How about tipping? It nearly killed me to pay that much yesterday, plus $35 for a cut (which i LOVE) and another $30 for tip... OUCH!
Thank you.Is it bad to ask your hair stylist to recolor your hair?
who cares your paying themIs it bad to ask your hair stylist to recolor your hair?
yes u should have them recolor ur hair and if u asked them for highlights and not lowlights they will redo it for free.
not if u paid that much money and u dont like it.
Well in my opinion judging by what you typed I could tell you are a respectful kind of person. So I mean if you paying that much money for your hair then it should be done the way you want it to be. So if this hair stylist gets rude and starts acting weird just because you wanna get it redone a better way. Then I would drop her/his *** in a heartbeat for a new hair stylist. Ha ha Hair salons aren't cheap so who cares how annoyed someone gets when you want it done right shoot you even tipped so they can and will get over it. Now as far as you having to pay more I couldn't tell you because maybe it could be policy not to redo if you already leave the salon and don't go back that same day. At the same time your not really happy so I think it just depends on the hair stylist if your a regular to her maybe she would fix the mistake free of charge. In my opinion she should because it's about you being happy with your hair. Good luck with your decision.

Do you think my hair stylist will be pissed?
Alright soo..when I went to go get my hair dyed, I wanted to go to honey blonde. (Not too light on me, just perfect) And my nest visit to add more color to it, I changed my mind and went red. %26amp; I also showed her many other colors and she said ';Everytime you come in, you want something different.'; she didn't say it in a mean way at all, she had a reason to say it..Well and my next appointment in the 24th to color it red again because it's fading, but Idk if I wanna stay red now, do you think my stylist will get annoyed? I do wanna go red, and then again I wanna change to something different.
What should I do?!?Do you think my hair stylist will be pissed?
its your hair! if she wants to get pissed, let her get pissed... its not like shes your best friend or anything. and if she starts getting annoyed... than shes obviously not good in the customer service industry, and thats her problem. maybe try a different stylist if she starts getting annoyed.
:)Do you think my hair stylist will be pissed?
go for it. thats her job. she gets payed to do that. thats like asking a butcher for chicken and him getting mad at you because you chose chicken and not beef.
if your not paying her to do this...then, yes, i would understand why she would get mad. but otherwise, shes the one out of line.
Do what you want to.
It's your hair, and it's her job to color it how you want it to.
Get it done :D
Red hair is typically sexy.
Who cares? It's her job to do your hair--you are paying her for it. Just decide what you want to do and go with it.
She cant say nothing at all if you're paying her. I would strongly advise you not to color your hair so much because it is very damaging to your hair (I know from personal experience).
Just tell her what you want
I think she doens't care to hear what you are going to do, then change your mind blah blah blah
She really doesn't care, you are paying so don't worry
haha, I would be pissed!
but your paying her, so its not like she should talk down to her client.
go a different red!
If you pay her, she shouldn't be annoyed I don't know why she would lol!
Go ahead and go red.

How much can a hair stylist expect to make in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho?
I am currently living in Seattle and about to graduate from the gene juarez academy. We are considering a move to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho because we can not afford cost of living in Seattle and because my boyfriend has sick grandparents in Sandpoint. I am wondering how much (on average) I can expect to make working as a hairstylist Coeur d'Alene vs. Spokane. There are a few places in Spokane that I would love to look into working at, but if I am living in Coeur d'Alene I want to see how well I would do there as well. Money is not the MOST important aspect of a job for me, but I am trying to get an idea of what we will be able to afford as far as a house, buying a car, etc. How much can a hair stylist expect to make in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho?
An entry-level hairdresser in Couer d'Alene can expect to make about $7.39 an hour plus tips. The median wage is 9.32.
Here's where I found the info: http://lmi.idaho.gov/LinkClick.aspx?file鈥?/a>How much can a hair stylist expect to make in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho?
about minium wage,,,,there are so many shops//first you have to get an idaho license...from washington to Idaho, you may need more hours. Idaho requires 400 more. But years of experience may count.(which you wouldnt have yet)You also need to take a idaho state law test. My suggestion is to work at Fairchild AFB in spokane, they take any state license. I have worked (and still do) for military barber shop,,you make ALOT more money there as well as tips. CDA is EXPENSIVE!!!!!foundation makeup

Looking for a really good stylist that is not too expensive to highlight my hair in Oklahoma City. Any ideas?
A friend of mine does my hair and she does a really amazing job and has reasonable prices. She is young so she is aware of what is fashionable as well, and what styles appeal to different ages. I would check her out at the JC Penney salon. Her name is Amanda Riley
Another good stylist is named Susie and she works at Carmichaels (793-1611) in Moore. That is probably going to be on the pricey side but she does a really great job.Looking for a really good stylist that is not too expensive to highlight my hair in Oklahoma City. Any ideas?
Ask your coworkers, family and friends whose hair color you admire to recommend someone to you.

Get her email address, and send them to her. That's a hard one.
Or send them to your cellphone.
That too me looks like choppy hair with both of them combined. Just say you want choppy hair. Either that or explain to them precisley how you want it done.
get them to a computer after you send the link to your self and pull up your e-mail, click the link and show the stylist
Just like you did here! Show them the pics and everything. Usually if there is a specific hair style I want I put a few pictures on my iPod and show them to the guy cutting my hair.
Don't worry, many people before you will have done it :)

Business and marketing ideas for a hair stylist?
I have been doing hair for a year now, and am paid ONLY on commission. My clientele has doubled in this past year, but still has a long way to go. I have tried referral programs, i have went around the community passing out 25% off coupons. I work in a very beautiful, classy, upscale salon with affordable prices (75-120 dollars for cut and color). I am looking for new ideas to expand my clientele. If you are in the business and tried something that was a success, or you are a client, please give me ideas on things that will get more people in the door. Thanks!Business and marketing ideas for a hair stylist?

How Do You Shadow Your Hair? Hair Stylist?
My grandma has been dying hair along time she could be a professional at it like my aunt.
But anyway she was gonna shadow my hair but she wants to know how to do it like where to part it and everything.
Oh i want to show a picture of what it looks like to her too.
Thanks as much help would be greatful!

If I know what you are talking about it is when the hair underneath is darker. You just part the hair at the base of the crown. Take a look at this picture that shows the part not the extenstions just where to part . This is a good start. Just apply the darker color to the bottom half. http://www.glamourhair.com/styleguides/i鈥?/a>

Okay, I am a girl with meduim to long hair. I have an oval shaped face and VERY thick hair and there is a lot of it. It is a little wavy. Do you think this hair would work??

Hiya..
I perfer the second cut, if you have a oval shaped face.
Thick hair, can get thinned out... theres alot shampoo for thin hair if you decide to get it thinned..
Make sure you have a hair straightener, try a chi brand if you have medium hair..
Hope I helped.
xoxo
Second one. With maybe a bit more layers and a bit shorter. Then you should curl it, if you don't like it you should like wavy. Probably sounds weird right now, but believe me!
very cute haircuts that you've picked out....i'm not as professional so you can take or leave my advice, but i do have a heavy head of hair that is wavy....and i would make sure that no matter what you do, be sure to specify that you don't want your layers to get too short on top....if you're hair is thick and wavy it will cause you to have a mushroom poof at the top. this has happened to me several times and it sucks to grow out.

My hair stylist made a big mistake or so I think!?
I have been going to this one hair stylist for about 6 yrs. Started with a perm oops! when she fried my ends some strands came out straight. I never got another perm %26amp; decided that if I needed to get another perm I would find someone else. She is really good with hair color and I get lots of compliments on my hair color...even from complete strangers. I don't always get a good cut from her because sometimes she concentrates on one side and the neglected side never looks terrible but is a little difficult to style because of the uneven cut. On Wednesday I went to get my roots touched up and just a few highlights on top. I got home to find that she applied the highlight bleach over the top ends of the foils and now I have 3 stripes in my hair. Luckily there is just enough hair that isn't messed up so I can part it on the side and its not super noticable. Would you go back? Would it be impossible to find another stylist to duplicate my fav color? Would you be mad or understanding? My hair stylist made a big mistake or so I think!?
My mom has owned a salon forever and color is what people have the most problems with. It is not impossible to find another hair stylist. I would not go back to get my hair redone, except you should go back to her and tell her that she messed up your hair. You can politely tell her that you are unhappy, if she is a good stylist, she should offer to fix your hair for free. Just tell her no thanks and that you are going to be finding a new stylist. You should go and talk to other stylists and tell them why you are looking for someone new and make sure they understand what you are wanting. It sounds to me like your stylist now has an attention problem and is maybe trying to do too many other things while doing your hair. Another thing, don't perm your if you have bleach in your hair. Any good stylist would advise you against it because it will melt your hair.My hair stylist made a big mistake or so I think!?
I would go back and ask for a refund or a redo, then in the future look for another hair stylist. There's always another stylist who can do your favorite color, you just need to go to lots of places, ask friends for recommendations, etc.
I'd go back. Unless you paid 10 bucks to get your hair done, you should always get your monies worth. Also, why not just use this stylist for color only, and use another for the cut? Many salons have have multiple stylist work on one person.
Make sure to speak up when something goes wrong, otherwards it'll happen again. Most stylists are confident enough to not feel offended if something goes wrong. and if they are, then maybe it is time to get a new stylist.
Understanding NO way you pay way to much for hair services for them to be screwed up! You shouldn't have to manipulate your hair right after you get it done to make it look good! I would try a new stylist, I go to regis in the mall and I know they have them all over the U.S. and they have been good everywhere I have ever been they have really high standards!
hi honey,
go back to the salon, explain that you appreciated everything that that hairdresser did, but was diddapointed by the end result. say it wasnt what you expected. what they will suggest it to get your hair cut agin, and sorted for free. but this time explain that you want somene else to do it.
they wont mind. go asap because if you leave it too late they may not be able to help.
rememebr be nice, smile, appriecate their help, lsiten to eha they have to say and say to them that they are the only store you like. they will be more thatn happy to help. but if you have an attitude they will not help you.
make suree your polite to, treat them with respect, and they will appriciate you even more. becuase at the end of the day they dont want unhappy customers or reviews.
a tip for next time....
explain what you want, show a picture if possible. and then in the end ask them, what they are going to do. that way you will be 100% sure that they understand, then if it goes wrong it will be their fault.
last week i got mine cut and they did my fringe wanky. so they sorted it out for me. :D
also, dye your hair one colour maybe a red or a dark brown, then get more higlights out in....but tell them and they will change and correct it
hope i have hlped. bye honey xx
Truthfully put yourself in her shoes and see how you would feel if you did that to someones hair. I personally would not be mad and just go back explain what she did and ask her to please fix it if you like the woman and she generally does a good job then you should give her another chance. I think she could tell you what she uses in your hair like what part color to what part another color and any good stylist could easily match it.
I've had similar problems...it seems you can never get someone who does the color the way you want it and also cuts/styles it the way you want. Up until this last incident I would have said just go to her for color and tell her something like one of your family members cuts hair and you can't say no (and go to someone else to cut your hair.) But I'm not completely sure I know what you mean with this bleach...it sounds like she is a little careless. I think you should at least try someone else - just look for hair color on other people that you really like and ask where they get theirs done. Good luck.

Need help my hair stylist needs to fix my hair!!?
ok so i went to a professional so she can bleach my black hair blonde and well its blonde with orange spots my roots are orange any way i payed her $140 she told me to return because she has to fix the orange spots .. i believe i shouldn't have to pay when i go back .. because from the beggining she told me it would cost $120 , then when we were done she ended up charging my $140 so what do i do ,when i go back ?should she fix it for free?Need help my hair stylist needs to fix my hair!!?
if she didnt let u know before doing it that u would need to come back again after the initial bleach, then i dont think u should have to pay because she didnt do it rightNeed help my hair stylist needs to fix my hair!!?
yes. this was her mistake and she should fix it.
u should talk to her about fixing it for free and her raising the price. Take pictures of your hair before you go back to her and make sure you have witnesses of people that saw your hair and if she charges you to go back u should have a problem. if the problem gets serious enough to go to court u should have before pics and afters pics. Talk to ur hair dresser and try to straighten it out. u might have to pay her for the second time if she uses her materiall but she should charge you more than 60 dollars to get your hair fixed.
for sure go back and maybe talk to the manager and let them know that you are not satisfied and will be getting the word out that their salon is a total joke and that you feel you should get a partial refund \I would not let the same chic ';fix'; my hair though..yes it is her mistake but she must not know what she's doing and who knows how you'll end looking when you leave after she's worked on your hair a 2nd time.. good luck!!

Professional Hair stylist only please!?
what hair style do you think will look good on me?
I think a hair style like zac efron's or jesse mccartney would look good
and also; how would you be able to find stylist to do that? I never usually don't like any salons and wanted to know how to get a stylist that does famous people's hair.

I think you have closest to a heart shaped face:

';Heart: The heart shaped face is broadest across the cheekbones and has a wide, broad forehead. It is narrow at the jaw line and wide at the eyes. The jawbones curve either to an oval or pointed chin that completes the heart shape. Almost any style is becoming on this normal type of face.The hair may be either short or long, but preferably a little fuller on the top than on the sides.';

Just because a stylist cuts a famous person's hair doesn't necessarily mean he is particularly outstanding with all styles. Take a look at some of the short haircuts certain male celebrities are wearing. Most of them have inappropriate sideburns for the style of haircut and face shape, and the tapering isn't always up to the standards of an average quality barber.
You'd look good with a short summer cut like this:

A Hair Stylist Opinion And Advice? (10 Points Best Advice)?
Ok,
So I want to get a haircut but I am not to sure and would like
some opinion or advice.
Here's the info:
I have thick black hair and it is currently really staggered and it
looked fine when cut but now it's grown out to all sorts of weird proportions, for example the back of my hair is longer than the rest and looks like a mullet, which I dont like.
I want to keep my bangs long but I want it to look somewhat clean,
I don't want neccessarily an ';emo'; or so called ';Scene'; haircut.
I really want a cut similiar to this:
http://www.datingdames.com/wp-content/up鈥?/a>
also,
I like how his sides are short but the rest is long,
I have a long face, so I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions
or just opinions.
I was also curious as to some good styling products
to get that messy kind of look that crawford has in that picture.
Just any general hair advice would really be appreciate,
and what would be a good way to explain this to a stylist,
I know thinning is involved, anything else would be a help.
Also if anyone lives in the LA area,
A good hair stylist would be appreciated.
Thanks.A Hair Stylist Opinion And Advice? (10 Points Best Advice)?
that haircut sounds like it'd be nice with your face.
razor cut it! it'll give you the nice piecey look. and get rid of the back.... no mullets!!! :o)
i use either texture paste (texture is the brand, paste is the name of the product), redken rewind, or american crew fiber for the piecey look.
take a fingertip amount, rub between your palms until it disappears and then run it through your hair, pull the pieces where you'd like them to go and boom, you have the hair style. :o)

Professional Hair Stylist question...Please Help!!!!!!!?
There are many details to this so please bare with me. My natural hair color is dirty blonde. 3 months ago I died my hair red. My roots grew in and for a birthday present for myself I went to the Regency Beauty Institute today to get my hair died. I had about 3 inches of dirty blonde roots and the rest of my hair which is 2 inches past my shoulder was the washed out red. Anyways I told the stylist that I wanted to get back closer to my natural hair color. They said I would have to bleach my hair and they didnt want to do that. Instead they dies my hair a similar red with partial highlights ';to lighten it up'; My hair is now bozo the clown red on top and gingery red on bottom with blonde streaks everywhere. THIS IS A NIGHTMARE. When I look in the mirrow i just cry. Here are my questions..... Can this be fixed? My 21st birthday party is in 12 days and i look awful. I am willing to cut my hair bleach it whatever! What are my options? How much will this cost me? Please help?Professional Hair Stylist question...Please Help!!!!!!!?
I think the best thing to do would be to go to a dependable salon and have them dye it for you. Since your hair is a few different colors, they'll probably bleach it, then dye it the color of your choice. Whatever you do, don't dye it yourself, because in your situation it will just end in disaster (trust me). But if you go to a professional salon, they should be able to fix your problem. Depending on the salon, it can cost anywhere from $40-100, but it's worth it to have beautiful, healthy hair.
Hope I helped, good luck with your hair dilemma, and happy birthday! :)Professional Hair Stylist question...Please Help!!!!!!!?
I would use a drabber to calm down the reddish tones, you can get one at any beauty salon.
Walk into a professional salon a well known name like Fantastic Sams or something and they will be happy to advise you. Better to ask someone who can see the hair in person.
I made the mistake of allowing a college student cut my hair and I lost 10 inches due to the girl cutting my layers crooked.
Color correction can be tricky. The thing with red is that it fades fast but lingers for a long time. There are products like Modulate which reverse what the developer does and can lighten the color. You may want to cover the red with a dark ash blonde and do a lot of highlights. Whatever you decide, it's worth the money to get it done by a stylist with color correction experience. I would never trust my hair to a chain salon stylist.
If you don't know someone ask around. I always recommend my clients talk to the girls at cosmetic counters when they move away to find good leads on where they should go.
It can be fixed =)
Calmly call the salon that you went to (the Regency Beauty Institute) and explain that you're not satisfied and you'd like to know what your options are. They should be able to help you with minimal damage to your hair and minimal damage to your wallet. You've already paid them to color your hair so I would think they'd be willing to help adjust the color for you. They may suggest you wait a day or two so it's not so hard on your hair but you've got plenty of time to change it before your birthday. In the meantime, maybe enjoy a little ';clowning around'; until you get it fixed. It's only hair and it will be fixed in only a few days, I'm sure. Also, I'd avoid blonde since your haid has the reddish tint in it at this time--I'd go for light brown so that the color looks more neutral and as it fades over time, it won't get overly reddish.
Definitely, Definitely DEFINITELY go to another professional place. Wear a hat into public, I know it will be embarrassing without one. Show them what the other place did to your hair, and take along a picture to show them what you want your color to be. Bleaching your hair once if it isn't damaged is not going to hurt it as much as it seems. That way, you can get all of the red out of your hair and just go back to your natural color.foundation makeup

Changing Hair Stylist. How would you handle it?
I was reading a question that was posted here that prompted me to ask this question. If you decided to switch beauticians after you has been going to him or her for a while (like years), should you inform the beautician that you have decided to change beauticians and thank him or her for their services through the years. Why would you do so.
If you decided not to thank the previous beautician for years of services and you see them in public, how would you greet him or her and do you think you would feel embarrassed?
Beauticians, how would you feel if a client that you have been doing hair for a few years decided to go somewhere else for their hair services without an explanationChanging Hair Stylist. How would you handle it?
As a hairstylist, I've had clients change to me and from me over the years. It is their decision, and are entitled to choose who does their hair. Personally, I would like an explanation.. was it something I did? Can I make it better? Sometimes it's just circumstances. I am never uncomfortable to see a client in public.. I always make them feel like they are always welcome back.Changing Hair Stylist. How would you handle it?
First of all it happens in this business all the time. I would not inform them I would just move on. If you see them in public just say hello they will have known that you decided to go somewhere else. If they are rude shame on them. You are not the first or the last person that will do this to them.
its a free country and anyway a change is as good as a rest so they say.
Surely one can change hair stylist and still remain friendly. But if I was the old hair stylist then I would be wondering what the new one had that I lacked
okk i wouldnt tell them bc its none of their business but then again i would tell them and thank them.i would tell them over the phone or go into their shop.
I'm not a stylist, but I had this happen. I just simply said I needed a change and I was going to try somewhere else.
They won't take it personally. It's just a job. Just make sure the person you go to now is just as good or better.
just say that you have financial problems and can't use them anymore because their prices are too high

What can a hair stylist do about getting hair in her bra?
My wife is a hair stylist, and she comes home and complains about having hair in her bra from cutting people's hair. We have tried just cleaning them after every day, and it is just wearing us out trying to get the hair out, and we just cannot get all of it out. Is there a way of preventing this from happening other than wearing an apron? She has tried using an apron, but seems that it gets in the way and still is not good enough.
Help, please!
Thank you in advance!!!What can a hair stylist do about getting hair in her bra?
wear high neck tops- but I guess you already tried that and hair can pierce through the fabric easily. Did she try to wear two layers of top, like a vest under top - also the material would matter, as on some everything just slides down and normal cotton gatheres hair on its surface. What can a hair stylist do about getting hair in her bra?
Don't wear low cut shirts, is the only way I can think of preventing hair from going down her shirt....
why dont u like trying to get the hair off?
wear an apron
get a shirt that isnt so low
Help, please!

Pushy hair stylist - would this bother you?
The lady (Pat) who usually does my hair was going on vacation for 2 weeks. So a friend of hers (Mary) told her to tell me to go to her (Mary) while Pat was gone. I never said I'd do this, as there is another stylist I like (Jim) at the shop where Mary works, but I didn't know if or when he was available.
As it turns out Jim was available. I made an appt. with him and when I arrived, Mary was there and tried to literally pull me away to go to her! I said, ';No, I made the appointment with Jim'; but she just kept right up, saying ';I'll take you since Pat is on vacation'; and I kept saying no, trying to be polite but it was very embarrassing and annoying. She actually had someone else ask me how I knew Jim, as if it's anyone's business!
I know this isn't an important problem but it still bothers me. What do you think, was Mary out of line? I sort of don't want to see any of them anymore, although Pat is a friend and her intentions were good, but this is too much drama just to get my hair done. Should I say anything or just let it all go? Pushy hair stylist - would this bother you?
Yes Mary was out of line and also immature. It's just hair!! It's up to you on whether or not if u wanted her to do ur hair. When u schedule ur next appt with Pat just let her know that u didn't appreciate that Mary was acting childish sending ppl over to u asking u questions and u tried to explain to Mary that u wanted Jim to do ur hair. That's just so stupid of her (Mary).

Ladies: what was the worst thing a stylist ever did to screw up your hair?
Ladies: The bad haircut/style/color, I'm sure, has happened to most, if not, all of you at some point in your lives.
But has one bad experience ever made you cry?
Let's hear what you have to say!Ladies: what was the worst thing a stylist ever did to screw up your hair?
well, yes, but i only cried becuz i was so MAD! i told him that i needed it long enuf to put back in a ponytail for working out and that it drives me crazy when i'm on the treadmill and i get sweaty hair flying into my face -- you'd think that'd be clear enuf... well, with one snip, he cut off so much in the front that there was NO way it'd ever fit into a ponytail... i screamed right away but it was too late... his answer to me: ';but i know how to make it look good -- and if you want, you can still grab the hair in the back and make a short ponytail, so i DID do what you said.'; i was so furious that it was the first and only time i ever refused to pay for a haircut!!! i had to use a million bobby pins for months -- aarrgghhh! and thanx for letting me vent!Ladies: what was the worst thing a stylist ever did to screw up your hair?
ye i cried*. i was meant to be having highlights but this stylist did massive chunks of a wierd tangerine colour in it and it was very depressing
2 years ago my old hairstylist had gave me a really bad blunt bob cut. I asked her to make the bob where it was layered in the back and just long on the sides with a slight angle to them. She completely messed up my hair, and when she was finished I looked liked something from the 80's!!!!! My boyfriend picked me up that night from the salon, and he played it off like everything was ok. He kept saying it's looks good baby, your look beautiful. I knew he wasn't telling the truth he just was being a good man by not trying to hurt my feelings more than they already were. My mother had been seeing a new hairstylist and insisted I try her. I was really hesitant, but at that point I just wanted somebody to fix it any way they could, just as long as I didn't have to walk around looking crazy another day. When the new lady did my hair, let's just say she performed a miracle. Not only did she fix it, but she made it look even better than I imagined it could look. It was the sexiest bob I could have ever had, and I still have my family talking about how great it looked on me. To this day I still go to this woman to get my hair done. She not only does great styling , but she keeps my hair so healthy, and it has really grown so much since then. I still think back to my old hairstylist and I'm so glad she did mess my hair up because if she didn't I wouldn't have the great stylist I have now.
The worst thing they have ever done is NOT LISTEN-and they do that a lot!! Yes, I have cried-once. Back in the day I wanted one of those Halle Berry type cuts and my GRANDMOTHER of all people who is a beautician...made me look like a friggin boy (and I had to take photos for my dive team that day). I couldn't do anything but look in the mirror and cry-not hysterical or anything just a couple of tears fallin'...yeah...I think she felt bad but instead of comforting me she totally threw a fit and said ';That's it! I am NEVER cutting your hair again!!!'; Yeah...she wasn't playing...I was 13 then and I'm 24 now and she has yet to even TOUCH my hair. I wasn't exactly 100% in love with her hair cutting abilities. Not funny at all...okay...so maybe it's a little funny now that my hair is normal. Thank God it grows back!!!
I'm in my brothers name first of all. When I was around the age of 10 my uncle soon to be wife-know ex, tried to give me a perm, because I was mixed and had curly hair they thought we'll make it straight. Burn the crap out of my scalp because it was so thick as since I NEVER had needed one in the first place and had no clue what it was it left bald spots. My mom ended up yelling at them. Okay then a couple of years later my grandma had it set up that I would get an relaxer, haha. I didn't do my hair so I thought it was shampoo or something. Since my mom move to NY I had no clue how to take care of it, everybodied expected me too since my cousin could. But I had tons of hair, and it was ten time more than what she had. So sadly it fell out. I cried and still do Cause I had long hair and missed it. Another thing happen my mom was upset about that two. So in recent years I've delt with these things called perms and finally had the courage to grow it out. And found a much natural product to straighten my hair. Okay now my friend a ';hairstlylist'; since she went to school and had her liscence wanted to do my hair. Since my hair is naturally dark she had to bring up a shade to put in a dark blonde color. Why oh why. Next thing I new chucks of my hair fell out I cried in the shower haven't talked to her yet. Now I'm looking for hair product to grow it back and yes you can revel in my pain. Cause my mom had to chop it off. And now I have a short hair cut and know nothing of how to do it. walking around with this ugly a** ponytail (lol) it's okay. It's funny to me know but when I go to comb hmm I won't have the same molody.
i had hair just past my shoulders (bout 1 inch) and i asked her to cut it just above my shoulders with a fringe on one side, and then she did that but left about 5 chinks of hair the old length!! i had to make my mum cut them off later because i didnt notice until then!
the last time i went to the salon, i had dark hair and wanted blond highlights and my hair turned grey...it was horrible
When I had gotten some mirco braids. There was two of them doing my braids and the one who was doing the left side had folded my hair because of length and the other just braided. so when they were done they told me that when I am ready to take them down just cut were the glue is because it was past my hair. So when it came to that time I did and one side was way longer thank the other side. I had to get my hair cut and now they do my braids for free.
strip my hair, which left it with a greenish tint and uneven color, and lots of scabs.
My beautician and my best-friend had a knock down drag out fight early one day. I went to see my beautician and she f**** my head up. I didn't know until after I left the shoppe that the two of them had words with each other. She cut my hair a week before I needed a relaxer. Not good. I was pissed. She never touched my hair again I wanted to drag her a$$
The girl gave me a layered cut when I just asked for a trim and keep it all the same length.
One cut mine with a razor blade, and then added mass quantities of ringlet curls with a curling iron. I looked like Nelly Olsen from Little House on the Prairie.
I was too shocked to cry. WTF was she thinking?? I couldn't ask- she didn't speak English, except to say ';Many curly- tee hee';
When the sylist had somewhere to go and put anything in my hair, she really mess my hair up bad.the very next day it was mess all up. I got a free hair do.
I have had bleach used for highlights which fried my hair. Years ago I had my hair cut at the mall and had a magazine picture of a really cute shag and it ended up looking like Carol Brady's hair. I held up the magazine to the moron and said does my hair look anything like this to you! It looked horrible, the layers were too short and the back too long, like a mullet but worse. Cheap haircuts don't work, spend the extra money to get a good one, lesson learned the hard way.

How can I tell my hair stylist that I want her co-worker to do my hair instead of her?
I've been having the same woman do my hair for several years now. She works in a shop that has only two stylists. I wanted to get my hair done the other day but my regular stylist was not there so I had the other one, who is also the owner, do my hair. I love the way she did my hair and want to use her as my stylist from now on. I do not want to hurt the other one's feelings! What would you say to her the next time you had your hair done? You would have to say something since the shop is so small and she would be right there in front of you. I sure hope someone here can help me out!!!!! I really would hate to hurt her feelings! Thanks. DonnaHow can I tell my hair stylist that I want her co-worker to do my hair instead of her?
just say that I really liked the way she did my hair %26amp;%26amp; that you would like to try her out. shes been doing your hair for awhile, and im sure the bond between you is strong, so she wouldnt really be hurt, as long as you do it the right wayHow can I tell my hair stylist that I want her co-worker to do my hair instead of her?
I think you should just tell her in a kind way so you don't hurt her feelings but she should understand you and let you do what you wanna do, if she is a real professional she's going to understand you.
If you want to be totally passive about it, find out when your stylist has a day off and then dropping in to get your hair done on that day.
Or maybe you can still have your stylist to your hair, but be more instructive or even get the other stylist to help her out to get it the way you like it. Also give lots of compliments and be nice- but not phony- to your original stylist. Good luck, I know how much of a sticky situation this can be...
Just be straight with her ,don't beat around the bush.
WOW! Thats really tough, and to be honest, feelings are probably going to be hurt! Just like anything else in life, honesty is the best policy. It might make you feel like crap at first, but constantly lying to her or avoiding her (making appointments when you know shes not there) is going to make you feel like crap over and over again!
Being honest is always the best option. If you feel you can't, find out when she is off and only make appointments on her days off.
I had a similar dilema and my stylist was VERY hurt, wouldn't even make eye conact with me when I went in. I eventually just went to another salon and found someone else I really liked.
go
when you pay at the counter.
what evver the ladies name that you want to do your hair
go hi can i pelase get my hair cut

call in for an appointment with the stylist you want
Well, I applaud you in worrying about other people's feelings. A lot of people don't care anymore.
But please tell the truth! Tell the lady that you want the co-worker to style your hair that day.
Tell her you are in need of change. That is the only way.
Good luck!
can you make appointments? if so, when you call to make one say ';hi i want to make an appointment with ';your desired stylist's name.';
also, maybe you can talk the the girl you want to do your hair from now on about your concern, and have her break the news to your previous stylist.
Be honest.Talk to your hairstylist about your purpose talk to her in a nice manner for she will understand your will.Theirs no harm in trying as long as you will do it in a nice way.

How do I ask a hair stylist to cut my hair like scene?(Read details)?
I like the hairstyle a lot but I don't want it too poofy. I'm NOT scene I just LIKE their HAIR. So how do I tell the salon to cut it that way? And if there's anything else I should know about the hairstyle just tell me. And please be respectful. And don't say poser bcuz I'm not a poser. I don't want to be them or dress like them. I just want the hair but just not crazy. How do I ask a hair stylist to cut my hair like scene?(Read details)?
Ask your hairdresser to cut long choppy layers. Also, ask for a thick side bang. It might help to bring in a picture, too. You can look up scene hair on google images and bring one in that you like. Hope this helps! Good luck! How do I ask a hair stylist to cut my hair like scene?(Read details)?

Have you ever had a hair stylist rag on your hair to make a sale?
I did. I already use the shampoo from their store before this happened. Let me start off by saying: I have dry, frizzy, and wavy hair.
Ok So I go to the hair stylist and half way through the cut (I was removing split ends) She asks what shampoo I was using. I told her I was using the stuff from the store. She gave me a weird look, then asked If I was using it correctly (which I was, its not hard to use shampoo) I said yes...then she said: ';Well I just brought that up because you have a few flyaways, We have some silk drops that can make them more attractive....';
I did not buy the silk drops because I was furious she insulted my hair like that.
Has this ever happened to you? Isn't it so rude?Have you ever had a hair stylist rag on your hair to make a sale?
I don't think hairstylists should insult their client's hair (especially when some of them could use a good deep conditioning treatment for their own over processed strands!). This has happened to me, to my sister, to my mom, to everyone I know. Some people don't use any tact and end up sounding insulting when they don't mean to be. All shampoo is drying to some degree, and some are better than others also. Get a good conditioner to help with the dryness and frizzies and just forget how your stylist chose to tell you about what you already know. although silkening products do work wonders on dry flyaway hair! but I understand why you didn't buy it : )Have you ever had a hair stylist rag on your hair to make a sale?
they havnt done it in a mean way..just like suggesting the products they have lol

How do I explain scene hair for my hair stylist to do my hair?
I want my hair to be somewhat like this: %26lt;a href=';http://tinypic.com'; target=';_blank';%26gt;%26lt;img src=';http://i44.tinypic.com/nf0c0.jpg'; border=';0'; alt=';Image and video hosting by TinyPic';%26gt;%26lt;/a%26gt; but I'm not sure if she knows how or if this is a good enough picture to describe it to her? Or if I should get a picture with scene hair, but straightened?
Opinions are needed, PLEASE! I don't want to be the first scene girl in my school and *f it up.How do I explain scene hair for my hair stylist to do my hair?
I think you should get a picture where the hair is a little more straight so it's easier to see how it's cut. You might also want to get a pic of the back so she can see the layers more. How do I explain scene hair for my hair stylist to do my hair?
first off, i loveee scene hair, but i couldnt pull it off:c so good for you for getting it :] and i suggest you just show her a picture of how you want it. and try to go to a really good place so they know how to do it. hope this helped!
just ask for lots of choppy layers i think.
or just bring the picture in
taking her the picture would be the best idea!
show him this picture, and another picture of the style, where you can really see the hair and its texture and cut. describe what its like with your hands and showing him or her what'd it be like. I do it all the time with my hairdresser, and he always gets it perfect.
Bring in a picture and tell your stylist to give your CHOPPY layers. Regular layers are not the best for teasing (if you know what that is) Also get a side fringe if you don't have one and to make it better you can thin some of your hair out at the bottom.

What do I ask my hair stylist if I want my hair cut like this? ( PICCS INCLUDED!)?
fast forward to ';1:05'; on the video, because that's the part where she explains her haircut. Well, in the video her hair is really long, and my hair is about 2 inches past my shoulders and its already layered, but I was wondering could I still get short layers at the top to add volume? kinda hard to explain sorry .

I've taken pictures to the hairdressers before. Since the idea for your hair is in a video, just take a screen shot at the point which you think is best.
It's so much easier for both you and the hairdresser if you take a picture in - that way they can see and not have to try and interpret a description of the hairstyle. What do I ask my hair stylist if I want my hair cut like this? ( PICCS INCLUDED!)?
Why dont you ask for side bangs. you dont need extra layers since you can just tease them/add volume to them yourself. you cant have your hair like hers since her hair is really long, the shape of her hair will be different than yours.
yea sure, just tell ur haircutter to cut layers starting from the top of ur ear, that should give more volume. hope i helped =)

get it thinned out and to cut however much you think needs to be cut off. i honestly like your hair right now but i guess it is up to you on what you want to do with your hairHow can i ask my hair stylist to get my hair back to this (pics of me insdie)?
Your hair is sooooooo awesome and attractive! It is totally skater and there is absolutely NO problem with it. I think your hair is perfect, and thick hair is healthier than thin hair. I suggest not to cut your hair because it's cool.
well i personally like it the way it is, it looks really good. You have a nice face ;) but you can go to her, tell her you want to get an inch off the entire thing
WTF??!!! r u making out with that mirror in the 2nd old picture???? But u could just shave it off....LOL!!! idk ur just gonna have 2 let it grow out!!

If your a really experienced hair stylist and you know alot about relaxing hair...?
I was wondering what damage what happend to my hair if i relaxed it. my mom is mexican and my dad is african. you can kinda guess what my hair is like. i have A LOT or hair. super super curly hair but not the tiny curls that african american girls have. i want to relax it cause I HATE MY HAIR! i also want to put three streaks of red on the back of my head. so here are my questions:
1. will relaxing my hair damage my hair so bad that it wont grow anymore or grow extremely slow?(by the way my hair grows extremely fast
2. how long would my hair being relaxes last?
3. if i put the three streaks of red in my hair would that really mess it up and make my hair fall out or is it just better to not do the color?
thanks so much in advance if you try and answer these quesiton!
sorrry for writing so much haha :)If your a really experienced hair stylist and you know alot about relaxing hair...?
If you are going to relax, then it's best to wait a few months until you do color, because you will overprocess your hair like that causing breakage.
Relaxing your hair would not slow damage rate or cause it to grow slower. Your hair would grow the same. The reason why you see a lot of people who relaxed their hair, with short hair, is not because it does not grow, but because they damaged their ends so bad that they had to cut most of it off. Relaxing makes the hair weak and strips the hair of moisture. You MUST deep condition your hair at least once a week, and always make sure your hair is moisturized if you do not want split ends.
Also, you can not put as much stress on the hair as you did before. Meaning, you can not put as much heat on it (or if you do, put the heat on a lower setting), and you should not put any added stress on it by putting it in braids right after you relax it, because your hair needs time to strengthen.
But the most important thing is keeping it moisturized and deep conditioning. If you follow these steps, your hair should not have much breakage.

Fired by a hair stylist! Is this common?
Carter Barnes at Phipps Plaza, Atlanta. I've gone there twice. I went from long to short, and it's traumatizing. II went there because I saw someone at work whose short hair was cut really well. It was late on a weekday (tired, hungry) the second time I went and there wasn't enough time to do anything I expected to get done because the ';front desk'; only booked a 1/2 -hour for a 1-process color (!). So, I left a bit disappointed. I didn't leave there whistling zippity-doo-da, but I wasn't in tears. So, I booked another appointment a few weeks out to make sure there was plenty of time for the foils and attention that I needed. Anne, the stylist, had the receptionist call to say that she didn't want to do my hair anymore. I was insulted, hurt, amused, embarrassed (she's my co-worker's stylist) - a whole gamut of weird emotions. How would you handle this situation? It's rather new to be rejected by a mediocre stylist. And the funny part is that I ALWAYS tip 20% or more.Fired by a hair stylist! Is this common?
I would definitely never return to the that salon again, and I would write a complaint letter to the owner/manager of the salon. I have never heard of something so unprofessional in my life. I absolutely cannot believe she did that.Fired by a hair stylist! Is this common?
Did you complain to your co-worker? It's possible your displeasure with the first visit got back to her and she didn't want to risk further complaints to others about her work.
Who cares! Go to a different stylist. You are the one that is paying. Go to someplace better. Maybe she didn't have the time to do your hair or had to cancel for some reason. Maybe it wasn't that she didn't want to do your hair but just couldn't.
Go to the salon's manager and file a complaint. The stylist's behavior was unprofessional and needs to be brought to someone's attention. After that, choose another salon.
i suggest asking why and telling the manager if its a mean reason, and go somewhere else!
Err..Maybe ask why?? Sounds Weird!
Go somewhere else and don't tip so much.foundation makeup
