I am interested in both professions but was trying to figure out realistically which job would pay a higher salary. I live in Virginia so both professions are on the rise here, I love fashion, hair and make up...I just haven't decided quite yet which field would be more beneficial to look into. I have researched and toured every local school within 50 miles of my house, and it has recently come to a toss up between two schools......I just want to make sure I make the right choice in which course I should attend. Any help or personal experience would be highly appreciated. Thank you!Do hair stylist get paid more then an esthetician?
You usually work on either a commission or what they call a ';Booth Rental.'; Commission is usually about a 50% cut of everything you do or a little less (it's different everywhere) and a booth rental is when you pay a certain amount a month like renting an apartment. You keep all your money and you just pay, say, $500 a month. It depends on where you work.
The amount you make in the end all depends on how much clientele you bring in. If you are a hairstylist and you take 2 hours to do cut and color and charge $200 and your commission cut is 50% than you just made $50 an hour for 2 hours.
Facials aren't cheap either. A $60 facial for one hour and your 50% cut you just made $30.
Don't forget everyone tips!
Do the one you feel you have more of a passion for.
I would personally go for hair. The reason is because you will always know the hottest trends and working in a salon you get your hair done by trading with friends all the time. You will always look fabulous.
It's easier to build a clientele. Everyone gets trims and roots done. Facials are more of a splurge thing than a regular monthly thing. When people are low on cash you know they will pinch pennies to get there hair done but a facial is out the window!
Also, you could open your own hair studio. You could most likely never start a shop doing solely facials.
My girlfriend Krystal worked in a studio for about 3 years and then opened her own. It is just her and her best friend and they have been in business for 5 years now and she is very successful.
She is only 25!! She just got married, has a baby and a home and she is 2 years younger than me. I have to admit, she's living the dream.Do hair stylist get paid more then an esthetician?
