Hair stylist please....My mom is wanting me to cut and perm her hair but I have a question....?

She has long thin hair right now, down to her bra buckle. She is wanting volume in it but she doesn't want to hot roll it or use a curling iron. So the only thing I can think of is a lot of layers and a perm. I went to hair school 4 years ago but I never got my license and I forgot a bunch of stuff since I went. So I have a few questions...She doesn't want a tight perm so I am thinking of maybe pink and orange rollers (alternating)? What about piggyback perm--although it's long, it's real thin--would I still need to do piggyback? And the cut...should I do a 90 or 180 degree cut? She doesn't want any off the length (just a trim) but lots of volume...any suggestions? Thanks very much!!!Hair stylist please....My mom is wanting me to cut and perm her hair but I have a question....?
You are asking the impossible! Sorry to tell you this, but you are approaching the whole thing from the wrong angle.

Why is her hair so long? It's of no use whatsoever, and only makes it look much more thin and flat by being long. There is no point to having it so long. She needs to wake up to the fact that it is serving no useful purpose.

Now, I'm not saying she needs to cut it down to a crew cut!! But excessively long hair just drags everything down. It really ages a person. You know that. Even shoulder length would be a big help.

She may not need a perm at all. You really need to know what it will do, and why she wants one. She may have the wrong reasons. There is not much a perm can do for her at that length. It would be a waste of time, and very disappointing.

She should try using rollers. Not hot rollers, please! Just regular wet-set rollers, which will give her a lot of volume (use larger rollers for less curl with lots of volume). Make sure you put them in very close together for maximum volume. Brush very well when dry.

Some slight layering would help too, but you have to really be careful how it's done. She should learn some different styling techniques to make it look better. If it's very thin, pulling it up with the right hair addition can be just the thing.Hair stylist please....My mom is wanting me to cut and perm her hair but I have a question....?
